More about ITB – 2nd semester

Exam week comes after Christmas’ holidays. Of course, it is difficult to revise during Christmas time but I personally think that it is better to have examinations in January rather than in December. We had 5 exams in 5 days so the rhythm was intense. In ITB, all students are gathered in the gymnasium where tables are placed. On the first day, I was intimidated and stressed about this unknown atmosphere.

According to me, exams here are easier than in France because for all courses, you have around 8 questions and you only have to do 6 of them. It means that you can choose to answer questions according to your favourite topics. The exam week passes very quickly, however it takes a really long time to get the results.

I was very excited to start my second semester at ITB. Indeed, I wanted to discover my new courses and to meet new Erasmus students. Some subjects are the same during first and second semester. It’s the case for Operations Management and Business Psychology & Behaviour. In January, I have discovered my new subjects and lecturers.

  • Diversity in the Workplace: This subject is from far my favourite this semester. It consists on analysing and understanding the importance of diversity in our societies and our work environment. Also, our Lecturer Fionnula stimulates us to think and to develop our own vision on the subject. Some of the topics discussed are racism, homophobia and how to overcome those issues.
  • Databases for Business: This subject deals with the software Access. The main point is to create diagrams and to use properly Entity Relationships. The most interesting part of it is that we have a group project to make in partnership with a company in Dublin.
  • Accounting Management: Basically this subject is the extension of Financial Accounting. However, I prefer this subject because it is much more practical.
  • Spanish for Business: I have decided to choose Spanish as my elective subject. Even if some other possibilities tempted me more, I think that it is important to pursue with a second language. Also, classes are interesting because it is about business vocabulary.

Since the beginning of my second semester, I can say that I am more comfortable with English. Indeed, I can tell that I understand better the people, the accent and the lectures. It is very pleasant to notice that I have made progress concerning my English skills. As a result of this, I can say that semester two is easier. Actually, I know what are the professors’ expectations. Also, we are getting used to the requirements, the processes…
