CARNETS DESCARTES

All around Ireland!

All around Ireland!

Since I arrived in Dublin, my wish is to discover as much of Ireland as possible. The very first place I wanted to visit was of course Connemara.  During my first holidays in November, my sisters came to visit me. We rent a car, drove for two hours and arrived in Galway. It is a famous city, located in the west coast of Ireland. Even though the city is quite small; it is, in my opinion, a place to visit. Indeed, there’s a warm and friendly atmosphere. By night, the city is really festive. I enjoyed the walks along the seaside even if the weather is tremendously windy.

After a few days in Galway, we went to see the famous lakes and mountains. It is stunning and the variety of landscapes amazed me. Actually, while driving through the Connemara, you can see magnificent landscapes as far as your eyes can see. We went to tranquil fishing village where I really felt the Irish ambiance.  We went to visit Kylemore Abbey, which is a majestic castle. What I enjoyed most was our day at the Cliffs of Moher. I found it really impressive and powerful. Last but not least, we made a detour on our way back to Dublin to go to a city called Clara in Offaly Council.

One of the things that I recommend strongly is to go to Wicklow Mountains. You can go there by coach, on a sunny Sunday for example. Wicklow County is located on the east coast of Ireland. Wicklow Mountains National Park is one of the six protected area in Ireland. I spent an amazing day there. First I visited the city of Glendalough, which is charming and then we walked in the site.

Another place I went to is Killarney. The town is in the County of Kerry in the south west of Ireland. The view from the lakes is amazing and I definitely think it worth a visit. All around the County Kerry, you can discover the Purple Mountain, The National Park, The Torc Waterfall, Ross Castle or Muckross House and Gardens. My favourite part was The Ring of Kerry.

Before leaving, I have planned to go to Belfast. My roommates went there and convinced me that I have to go to. I thought Belfast was an industrial city and so I was surprised when they told me it is actually a cute and charming city. Also, the reason why I want to go to Belfast is to visit the Titanic Museum. Indeed, the Titanic was built in Belfast and so all the pieces from the wreck of the Titanic are exhibited in Belfast’s museum.

Finally, my Irish friends told me that Cork is a must-see in Ireland. I will go there during my spring holidays.
