The University in Germany, comparison with France.
There is a lot of differences between France and Germany about the way of teaching.
First: we have a lot of liberty about our choices of courses. Each department of the University propose a list of different courses and student are free to choose what they want. They can’t choose a course of bachelor if they are in master but they easily can start a new language. For example, a lot of people start Spanish during the second year of bachelor if they have already English and French.
Second: the exams are totally different. In Germany, students haven’t got an exam for every course. For some of them, we only have a seminar where, each time, there was a presentation of sixty minutes in English per group of two students. Also, we add a paper of twenty pages and that was all. It was really nice to have a mix of paperwork, presentation and writing exam and not all for each course. In this case, I felt less stressed and more prepared.
Third: the teachers are generally more open. At the beginning of the semester, they automatically give their email address and the open hours of their offices. They really push us to talk with them and exchange information about our subject of presentation. They give a lot of advices, and I really wanted to give the best work as possible. They were also really nice and, even if we were considerate as normal student for the evaluation, they always asking how we feel here in Germany.
Fourth: less “professional courses”. During a DUT, we principally have courses which give us real professional knowledges. With them, we can start to work in a company. Or, in Germany, the courses are more classics ( History of economy, economic system, world trade, English for the global business…) and the student start to learn marketing, human resources or logistic during only the last semester of the bachelor. In fact, they only discover this sector and after decide if they want to continue them masters in it.
Five: the internship. Even if you are in a University or Hochsuchle (Technical University), you generally haven’t got the possibility to do internship during your studies. You often must have to do it by yourself during the holidays between the summer and winter semester. It was a bit strange to me because the master asks for a lot of internship and professionals experiences to integrate it. Finally, student to it (internship) by themselves.
