My courses in the TTU university

TTU.png

Last year, when I chose my Erasmus country for this DUETI, I wanted to select a big university offering a wide range of courses. The TTÜ was perfect for that. It is divided in four main departments:

  • Faculty of Economics including several components (Finance, accounting, business, law…)
  • Faculty of computer including informatics, biorobotics, computer sciences…
  • Faculty of engineering (mechatronics, machinery, chemical engineering…)
  • Faculty of life science (mathematics, physics…)

Of course, I integrated the Faculty of economics which offers many interesting and different courses.

As in France, the courses may be given in two different ways: the lectures or the exercise. Some courses consist just in lecture or in exercise. Other lessons include both components: the lectures for theoretical teaching and the exercises for the training. I decided to choose all of these courses, in order to discover as much as possible the different teaching methods.

Concerning the lectures, it was sometime difficult to understand what the lecturer was saying. Indeed, many teachers came from Russia and had a strong accent. Moreover, it is impossible to stop the course at each misunderstanding. Fortunately, it was possible to ask questions to other eramus students having, in general, a better level in English than French students! Certain lectures were very interesting, the teacher giving many concrete examples (I can mention the course Introduction of political science). However, other lectures were quite boring (Logistics for instance), the lecturer reading its slides the entire course long.

When it comes to the exercises, it was very similar to the French ones. It mainly consisted in making presentations or doing exercises. During those lessons I realized that most students were Finnish. Indeed, Helsinki is very close to Tallinn (just two hours by boat). Thus, many Finnish students come from Finland because of the lower tuition fees and cost of leaving. I was surprised to notice that Finnish students are mostly fluent.

In general, I may say that these courses were very interesting and diversified. I have had the opportunity to choose between a long list of courses. In general, the teachers were comprehensive with Erasmus student, especially for our absences due to our several trips.
