My journey in Saint Petersburg

My journey in Saint Petersburg

After the amazing night walk in the center of Saint Peterburg, we visited several famous places.

  • The winter palace: a palace built by Elizabeth of Russia during the 18th Currently this palace is become a museum called Hermitage Museum. It is one of the largest and oldest museums in the world. This museum is impressive in size (60 000 rooms, 16 000 paintings). Each room is a new delight: mural painting, gilding and ceilings. Compared to the “Louvre”, this museum is much more impressive and majestic. The visitor is not coming for only one reason (paintings, exhibitions…) but the building itself is also a major part of the visit. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to see the entire museum.

I was amazed to hear our guide saying that it would last 11 years to visit the museum if the visitor would check each work of art 30 seconds. As for the Louvre, we can regret the high number of visitors.

  • We also made a boat trip on the Neva River, wonderful. Fortunately it was at the end of the day which permitting to observe the city in to the light and then lighted in the dark.
  • The Saint Petersburg metro. This metro is one the famous metros in the world. It is very deep and many communism symbols are still present. Nice visit for lovers of History.

After this long day of visits, we wanted to experience a Russian nightclub.  We went in a little nightclub located near our hostel. We spent an nice evening. We were stunned to notice that having a drink in the bar was extremely cheap (1,5€ for a cocktail for instance). We also discovered that Russian people appreciate karaoke. In the night club many Russian were singing and we joined us. Even if we did not understand the meaning of certain song it was an amazing moment

I would say that my Russian trip in Saint Petersburg was tremendous. In this city the tourists have a huge power purchase (because of the low value of the ruble compared to euro). It is a cultural city, with many museums, bar and restaurant to experience.
