Erasmus life in Zwickau: people and integration

Erasmus life in Zwickau: people and integration

Erasmus program

There is an important Erasmus community in Zwickau. In the beginning of September, people have the possibility to realize three intensive weeks of German which are paced by some special Erasmus activities.

Out of the parties, our German Tutors organized sport tournaments and visit in other big cities such as Leipzig or Dresden for a day. Some are organized during the semester and people went to Wurzburg in Bavaria.

Those three intensive weeks of German are interesting if we need to progress quickly in this language but it's great to create relationship between the different nationalities and not only people from your home country.

We were a group of ten French students during the first semester, some leaved because they only were here for one semester. But another group of French people came for the summer semester, but they are in a Master program.

There is a big community of Asiatic people, especially Chineses because of a special partnership. They were really nice and respectful, it was interesting to speak with them because of our cultural differences. There were a lot of Jordanians and Spanish’s

I only had conflicts with the Spanish community. They were noisy, the firsts to broke stuff and they didn’t care of the courses. I disliked them because, as an Erasmus, German students were cold with us and it was harder to create relationship because of their opinion from the Spanish’s.

To be honest, it wasn’t easy at all to be close to the German students. They have a way of living and to interact totally different of us, and it seemed cold to me. They are mostly focused on their friends and studies

Because of my nationality, I was automatically followed by a lot of clichés: lover, angry, impolite, dirty…

Finally, and progressively, I have got some good friends over here and I’m happy that they don’t see me just by my nationals clichés. But, even if they are German, they are “internationals” and they travelled a lot and that’s why they are understanding, open minded and it’s not the case of everyone in Zwickau.
