Tips's Box

Studying abroad is my first experience of independence and I remember how I was before coming to Amsterdam; I was full a questions, excitement, joy and fears. That's why I think it's important to help you as a student.

Over the time, I realize that I have so much to tell you! What I have experienced: the most interesting year in my life. Here are some - I guess - useful tips for you about living in the Capital of The Netherlands.

Before leaving for Amsterdam, a friend of mine told me:" There are two different kinds of people. The ones who prefer living with their families, friends, their circles, their cocoons, and the rest, who would prefer to live outside of their comfort zone,  leave family, leave their friends, and create a new life around themselves. Everything is ok, you can be everything you want. You may just need to go away to find out who you are and what you really want'. It was the best advice I received.

So, after seven months away from 'home', my advice to you is: trust you.

I'm giving you this advice because this is the one I would tell me if I could come back to September, when I was anxious. Trust yourself is one of the most important things if you go abroad, trust your instinct and push yourself if you feel it. My second advice is: surround yourself with good people. Sometimes, it's hard to be away from your circle, if so, you need people you can count on.

This article is more about tips for yourself than 'how to survive in Amsterdam' (This is another one of my article don't worry I will not let you down). If you are about to leave Paris for the DUETI Erasmus experience, you need to be ready. Sometimes things happen and you don't know what to do. Things never, ever go according to your plans and you'll always meet with unexpected obstacles. Remember that you have people with you, your loved ones in your hometown, the University,  and you will not be alone for one second.

My last advice to you, the future international student finally leaving home for the crazy Erasmus experience: Enjoy it too much, and don't forget to work on your assignments, all of them. Time flies and the year is consumed by all your parties, your trips, and your different projects. Stay focus on what you have to do, otherwise you will drown in work.

Those are the three tips I shall give you to take advantage of this fabulous experience and enjoy it as much as possible.
