The Learning Process  at Hogeschool van Amsterdam

My Erasmus year is separated in two blocs: The first and the second semester. The minor of my first semester is 'International Journalism' and my second minor for the second semester is 'Global Trend Watching'. Both of them are related to my previous degree : Information, Communication and Advertising.

My first minor was really interesting. I learned a lot about journalism and the profession. The process of learning, the assignments and the lectures are really structured, as the profession. The creativity could appear in the different articles we wrote, but not in the shape. We had to respect every journalistic rule to create a good article. It was really difficult for me because it was my first lectures on journalism. It was difficult and very much interesting. However, the Dutch learning process is different from the process in Paris. We had during this minor a lot of projects and workshops: it was the 'learning by making' process. In France, we are used to the 'Learning by listening' process, which is good, but not my favorite. The communication is conveyed by practice which is, according to me and my preferences, the best way to teach.

Although I found my semester really interesting, I didn't find myself in it. I was looking for more 'something else', maybe creativity, cahos, freedom and questions. I was looking for disruption and so far, I found it in my second minor : Global Trend Watching. To be honest, I did not know what to expect from this name and this minor. Today, I understand what I am doing and I love it. All our assignments deal with the present and the future: Try to guess the future of something by observing the present. This minor combines the communication, the creativity, the sociology and the marketing.

Today, my teacher asked me to think make scenarios, starting by 'What if....'. I can use my brain and my creativity than to the minor and the teaching process, because my teachers are looking for it. They (apparently) don't care about the grade, they want us to understand what they are trying to teach us. The knowledge is the most important, just as our own improvement.
