 A Walk Through My Minors

Erasmus year is not only about partying, travelling, meeting people. Unfortunately, you also have to study.

My first minor, from September 2017 to February 2018 was International Journalism. I was really interested in it, but I had some difficulties to follow every class. I think I may not be made for journalism, or, at least, for now. The lectures in this minor are : English for journalism, Critical Urbanism, Journalism and Society, International Institutions, Visual communication, and Conflicts and Media. This minor covered really well a huge field, one which is journalism. We learned the basics of the journalism, how to write a proper article, the different kinds of article, the news reports, the color piece, the column... and we learn how to create a magazine with the whole group of teachers and students from the promotion.

All of the lectures are linked to the world of today and link between themselves to make us understand the world we live in, and what we have to do for the people. I understand now more than before the real impact a journalist can have on Society and all the risk it takes for its career. Nobody is a journalist for the money, but for the passion and the dedication. You are journalist for the people around you who deserve the truth. Journalist can have a bad 'brand image' and they are widely questioned for their authenticity. With 'Fake News', Donald Trump, North Korea, terrorism... and the social media, the profession is really difficult. We need a good journalist to deliver a good work. We can obtain a good journalist if this one learned the good things.

I think what I learned during this minor will help me in the future, even if I don't become a journalist.

My second minor, the one I am into right now is Global Trend Watching. The minor is divided in different lectures: Concept and Development, From Trend to Forcasting, Trendwatching Project and Methodology. All this lectures will teach you how to become a trend watcher, not how to predict the future, but how to observe, analyze and understand the present to guess the future.

I really love this minor because I found what I like in it: creativity, analyzing data, observation, sociology, human behaviors, marketing... it's also more in adequation with my two years degree in Information, Communication and Advertising.

It has been only two months since the beginning of the second minor but I'm looking forward the rest of it, and all the knowledge I will earn. This minor shall help me grow up in the creative and surprising communication industry.
