Home sweet Home : Pardubice

Pardu...what? Yes, this name probably does not mean anything to you, but it is about the city where I spent nearly 6 months in the depths of the Czech Republic. This little known city is still a beautiful city and the place where I spent a wonderful Eramsus

Pardubice, a city located in the region of Eastern Bohemia, is a major city in the Hradec Kralove region. This city of 100,000 inhabitants is relatively close to its rival in terms of population, architecture, location.

This city was founded in 1340, 100 years after its rival, Hradec. Pardubice experienced many fires, three in total, which devastated the city during the sixteenth century.

The city holds its charm thanks to its renaissance style houses. The Czechs come to see this city for its architectural richness, its gingerbread, and its famous horse competition. The city also has an emblem for a horse, which is found on coat of arms, crest, flag of the city, but also logo of the many sports teams. In recent decades the city is known for its famous explosive semtex, made in Semtim, near the suburbs of Pardubice.

The city stretches south of the Elbe, and offers, through its old town, a charming atmosphere and typical bohemian style. Pardubice is mainly organized around two major squares and its castle. Thus, Namesti Republiky Square is the largest square in the city. Beautiful buildings surround this square, including the Municipal Theater. At the other end of the square is the Church of St. Bartholomew, dating from the thirteenth century.

The other place, located near the first, is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. Surrounded by Renaissance houses, it is dominated by the Neo Renaissance City Hall.
